Peoples Progressive Party Defense and Peacekeeping Policy
The Peoples Progressive Party envisions an Australia that leads by example in promoting global peace, stability, and human welfare. We believe that our nation's defence forces should be primarily focused on protecting our sovereignty and the safety of our citizens, while also contributing to international efforts to prevent conflicts, support humanitarian assistance, and foster post-conflict reconstruction. Our policy aims to strike a balance between maintaining a strong, defence-oriented military and actively engaging in peacekeeping initiatives worldwide.
1. Defence Only Policy
a. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will be maintained as a highly trained, well-equipped, and technologically advanced military, primarily tasked with defending Australia's territorial integrity, maritime interests, and national security.
b. The ADF will adopt a non-aggressive posture and will only engage in military action as a last resort, when all diplomatic and peaceful means have been exhausted, or in response to a direct threat to Australia's sovereignty or its people.
c. Australia will actively engage in international diplomacy, conflict prevention, and peaceful dispute resolution to minimize the need for military intervention.
d. The Peoples Progressive Party will ensure that the ADF receives adequate funding, resources, and support to maintain its readiness and capabilities while focusing on defense.
2. Becoming a Peacekeeping Nation
a. Australia will actively participate in and contribute to United Nations peacekeeping missions and other international efforts to promote peace, stability, and human rights.
b. The Peoples Progressive Party will establish a dedicated Australian Peacekeeping Force (APF) within the ADF, consisting of highly trained military personnel, civilian experts, and humanitarian workers who can be rapidly deployed to support peacekeeping missions
c. The APF will focus on conflict prevention, peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, capacity building, and post-conflict reconstruction efforts in collaboration with international partners.
d. Australia will prioritize diplomatic efforts and support regional and global initiatives to address the root causes of conflicts, such as poverty, inequality, and political instability.
e. The Peoples Progressive Party will foster partnerships with other nations, international organizations, NGOs, and local communities to enhance the effectiveness and impact of Australia's peacekeeping efforts.
Implementation
1. The Peoples Party will initiate a comprehensive review of Australia's defence and peacekeeping capabilities to identify areas for improvement and ensure alignment with the new policy direction.
2. The government will allocate sufficient resources to maintain a strong, defence-oriented military while investing in the development and training of the Australian Peacekeeping Force.
